How do I get the bookmarks on the dropdown in addition to the menu items?

more options

I used to be able to click on the bookmark icon and have my bookmarks appear on the dropdown along with the menu choices. Now, all I get is the menu choices and I have to click Bookmark Toolbar and then Bookmarks to see the bookmarks. How do I get the bookmarks on the first dropdown without clicking through?

Hmmm, can you explain a bit more about how menu choices and bookmarks were combined together?

Also, do you display the orange Firefox button -- abbreviated menus -- or the classic menu bar -- full menus?

Note that you can switch between the two using:

Alt+v (displays classic View menu) > Toolbars > Menu Bar

Abbreviated menu - but it doesn't make any difference. The Bookmarks menu comes up the same on both.

I'm not sure that my memory is accurate as to the items on the menu because I never paid much attention to it. As I recall, the dropdown listed Show All Bookmarks and Bookmark This Page. Below that were all my bookmarks. Under my bookmarks was Unsorted Bookmarks. I don't recall View Bookmarks Toolbar or Bookmarks Toolbar being on the menu.

Do you mean the Bookmarks Menu button on the Bookmarks Toolbar?

Make sure that toolbars like the "Navigation Toolbar" and the "Bookmarks Toolbar" are visible: "View > Toolbars"

  • Open the Customize window via "View > Toolbars > Customize"
  • Check that the "Bookmarks Toolbar items" is on the Bookmarks Toolbar
  • If the "Bookmarks Toolbar items" is not on the Bookmarks Toolbar then drag it back from the toolbar palette in the customize window to the Bookmarks Toolbar
  • If missing items are in the toolbar palette then drag them back from the Customize window on the toolbar
  • If you do not see an item on a toolbar and in the toolbar palette then click the "Restore Default Set" button to restore the default toolbar set up

I never have the Bookmarks Toolbar showing. I customize the Navigation Bar by putting the Bookmarks Menu icon there, plus other icons. Clicking the Bookmarks Menu button always showed me the menu and all my bookmarks without having to click anything else. It operated almost the same as clicking the Bookmarks folder icon on the Bookmarks Toolbar, except that the menu items also appeared.

Did you drag the Bookmarks Menu button with the drop marker from the toolbar palette on the Navigation Toolbar?

You only see the Bookmarks Menu button if the Menu bar with the Bookmarks menu is hidden.

Yes, I clicked Customize and dragged the Bookmarks Menu button with the drop marker from the palette to the Navigation Toolbar. I have always had the Bookmarks Toolbar hidden because I don't see the purpose of it. It seems to me that it just wastes space.

I'm pretty sure that my problem started when I upgraded to Firefox 12.

The thing I noticed was that my bookmarks menu button was hidden if I displayed the classic menu bar. However, it was visible when I used the orange Firefox button.
