Every time the updater window pops update, it eventually hangs and no update occurs. I have tried opening the updater window myself by 'checking for updates' myself but this also does not work.

I have also downloaded a copy of the newest version of each software and tried to manually install the newest version. This also does not work, and I receive a message that some files are locked. I have examined the permissions, and as administrator I do have read write permission.

If there are problems with updating or with the permissions then easiest is to download the full version and trash the currently installed version to do a clean install of the new version.

Download a new copy of the Firefox program and save the disk image (dmg) file to the desktop

  • Trash the current Firefox application to do a clean (re-)install
  • Install the new version that you have downloaded

Your profile data is stored elsewhere in the Firefox Profile Folder, so you won't lose your bookmarks and other personal data if you uninstall and (re)install Firefox.

I was worried that some of my data was stored there. I feel almost silly how simple the solution was, thanks!
