Missing option in 12.0

" Allow Text to be selected with the keyboard " this option is available in older version under " Tools " > "Advanced " > General Tab, I am using newer version 12.0. Where can I find similar option here.

The reason behind is, we have a website, where in we respond to our customers via email, when an email is sent, it does not align the text and separates the paragraphs. The text which is in Microsoft Word 2007 doc, when copy pasted and sent, it changes the alignment. With Firexfox previous version it was working.

Please help me asap and your advise would be highly appreciated in this regards.

Regards, Jagadeesh Yenduri.

Do you mean you copy formatted text from a word processor then paste it into Firefox, and end up with the pasted text formatting all messed up?

What I always do is open up a plain text editor like Notepad, paste the formatted text into Notepad, (all formatting is removed as Notepad can't handle multiple font faces/sizes,) copy the text from Notepad, then paste into Firefox, and then the text is pasted without overriding the fonts in the target browser text field.

Very much appreciate your reply here and a very Good day to you!

I believe this should work, let me give a try today. But I would feel this is a time taking process, copying entire text from Word 2007 to plain Notepad and then from Notepad to Firefox. There should be a similar option in 12.0 which was available in older versions.

Please let me know if someone could help me asap.

Do you mean the caret browsing setting?

  • Tools > Options > Advanced : General: Accessibility: [ ] "Always use the cursor keys to navigate within pages"

@ Aufbeschissener_Kunde, I tried copying from Word 2007 to plain Notepad and then to Firefox, this did not work as well. When an email has been sent to the Customer, a copy of that would be received at my end too.

I am not bothered about Font and formatting, it does not separate the paragraphs as it is in Word 2007, instead it continuously writes line by line without any spaces or alignment.

For better understanding I copy pasted the message below : Unformatted Text and Formatted Text:

Thanks and Regards, jkyenduri.

Our ROMS engineers have made the following determination:
Dear Michael, Very Good day! We have received the following alert and it implies that: Media Mount and Usage Errors A media is marked read only, bad or depreciated, or a mount or an unmount error has occurred. From the CommCell Browser please run a "Media Information" report with these options checked: All Error and Usage Media with Error Only This should identify the media in question Retired Media: ------------------------------- The Retired Media pool is the logical repository for all Deprecated media. Media is marked as Deprecated when the recycled spare media has been marked as Bad or exceeds the preset thresholds defined for the media in Media Expiration Threshold Parameters. The system determines whether a media is Deprecated during the following operations: Whenever a job requires spare media from the scratch pool, the system determines whether the media has exceeded its threshold values. If the threshold values are exceeded, it is marked as Deprecated and directly moved to the Retired Media pool. In the case of an active media, the system determines whether the media has exceeded its threshold values before writing to that media. If the threshold values are exceeded, an Event Message is generated indicating that the media has exceeded its threshold values. Such media are moved to the Retired Media pool until the media is recycled. Bad media is moved to the Retired Media pool after the media is recycled. If a cleaning media is marked bad or exceeds the preset thresholds defined for the media in the Media Expiration Threshold Parameters, it is marked as Deprecated and moved to the Retired Media pool. You can perform the following operations on the media available in the Retired Media pool: Export a media to physically remove it from the library. Delete a media to remove the media information from the CommServe database. If the media you wish to delete is not already exported, the delete operation has an option to export the media before deleting it. Verify the media to confirm whether the media information displayed in the CommCell Console matches the OML in the media Aged Media: ------------------------------ When a media is marked aged it means all of the jobs on the media have been aged and the media can now be reused. Bad Media: -------------------------------- When a media is marked bad you need to look at the media properties to see the actual reason it was marked bad. Media Mount and Usage Errors

A media is marked read only, bad or depreciated, or a mount or an unmount error has occurred.

From the CommCell Browser please run a "Media Information" report with these options checked:

   All
   Error and Usage
   Media with Error Only

This should identify the media in question

   Retired Media:
 -------------------------------
The Retired Media pool is the logical repository for all Deprecated media.
Media is marked as Deprecated when the recycled spare media has been marked as Bad or exceeds the preset thresholds
defined for the media in Media Expiration Threshold Parameters.

The system determines whether a media is Deprecated during the following operations:
Whenever a job requires spare media from the scratch pool, the system determines whether the media has exceeded its threshold values.

If a cleaning media is marked bad or exceeds the preset thresholds defined for the media in the Media Expiration Threshold Parameters,
it is marked as Deprecated and moved to the Retired Media pool.

You can perform the following operations on the media available in the Retired Media pool:
Export a media to physically remove it from the library.
Delete a media to remove the media information from the CommServe database.
If the media you wish to delete is not already exported, the delete operation has an option to export the media before deleting it.
Verify the media to confirm whether the media information displayed in the CommCell Console matches the OML in the media

 Aged Media:
 ------------------------------
When a media is marked aged it means all of the jobs on the media have been aged and the media can now be reused.

 Bad Media:
 --------------------------------
When a media is marked bad you need to look at the media properties to see the actual reason it was marked bad.
Several common reasons are as follows:
   drive needs to be cleaned
drive is having a hardware error
   media is actually bad

Bad media is moved to the Retired Media pool after the media is recycled.

Hi jkyenduri, if your cursor is in the editing area you may be able to select all of the text using the standard Windows keyboard shortcut Ctrl+A. Does that work?

Hi jscher2000, Very Good day to you, I believe you did not catch my point. It is not with selecting the Text using Ctrl+A. It is all about formatting text. When we reply via email, the copy pasted text does not get aligned and it is written continuously without any line separation as I described and showed the difference between Unformatted and Formatted Text.

" Allow Text to be selected with the keyboard " this option is available in older version under " Tools " > "Advanced " > General Tab, I am using newer version 12.0. Where can I find similar option here. Earlier this option was available and it helped sending an email with formatted text.

Thanks in advance, Jkyenduri.

I don't understand the connection between the setting you asked about and how the email editor interprets the text you are pasting. Based on the description in the following article, I don't think it should affect the formatting: http://kb.mozillazine.org/Accessibility_features_of_Firefox#Al.... The article mentions using the F7 key to turn on text selection. Does that help?

Regarding your email editor, can you check whether it supports switching between a "rich text" or WYSIWYG mode and a plain text mode? If so, make sure you are pasting when the editor is in the rich text mode. If the editor component is very old, it might use features that are no longer supported in Firefox 12. Can you provide a link to the site for testing?
