I'm running Firefox under Ubuntu 11.10 (this is not the Ubuntu version of Firefox). I've been getting a lot of system crashes and am trying to solve them.

While running Firefox, I noticed the error: "Failed to open VDPAU backend libvdpau_nvidia.so: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory"

This seems very odd. I do not have an Nvidia card. And I do not have that Nvidia driver installed. Why would Firefox be trying to call it?

can you try turning off hardware acceleration in preferences > advanced > general and see if the crashes go away?
