I have been having this issue for a few days, started around September 14 or so. When I open firefox, it starts to freeze right away, the screen will just freeze. This can last anywhere from a few seconds or a few minutes. Periodically, the browser will unfreeze and then refreeze again.

I have reset the profile, ran in safe mode, started a new prole with no extensions installed, rebooted the computer, shut the computer down, restored the profile from a backup, nothing has helped.

I can use google chrome or internet explorer just fine, just not firefox. This happens with the 16.03b, or the recently released version 15.

Could you test it on Aurora (and Nightly)?

A possible cause is security software (firewall,anti-virus) that blocks or restricts Firefox or the plugin-container process without informing you, possibly after detecting changes (update) to the Firefox program.

Remove all rules for Firefox and the plugin-container from the permissions list in the firewall and let your firewall ask again for permission to get full unrestricted access to internet for Firefox and the plugin-container process and the updater process.

See:

Try to boot the computer in Windows Safe mode with network support (press F8 on the boot screen) as a test to see if that works.

I'll try it out and report back.

Well, this issue is occuring with both the beta and aurora release of firefox. It doesn't happen with the current release 15.0.1 since I wiped out the firewall settings, did a uninstall of 15.0.1, and created a new profile.

I would have seen the issue with 15.0.1 by now, so at least that works for me. If anyone has any ideas for the beta, i'm willing to be a guinea-pig.

Here is the situation with the beta and aurora, when I start the program, the browser starts and everything seems fine, and after a minute the browser is still starting. If I click on ANY button within the program, the browser gray's itself out as if it is going to crash, then starts again, then freezes again. Very weird.

I appreciate all the assistance!
