On Buy.com the section showing reviewers comments is missing in Firefox but shown in Windows IE, which plugin/extension is the problem?

When I'm on the buy.com site there is a hot key to allow the user to go to the reviews on a particular product. When I hit the key, in Firefox, I am sent to the bottom of the page but the reviews are not loaded. However, when I go to Internet Explorer and get to the same site and hit the same hot key I am sent to the bottom of the page again, but the reviews are then loaded on that page. Can you tell me what conflict might be occurring? Page does not indicate that the additional data is being blocked.

Make sure that you aren't blocking JavaScript.

Start Firefox in Safe Mode to check if one of the extensions (Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Extensions) or if hardware acceleration is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Appearance).

  • Do not click the Reset button on the Safe mode start window or otherwise make changes.

When I click the "Read" link next to the stars, that seems to work. Does that work on your Firefox?

What is the hotkey? Is it something created by Buy.com or is it added by an add-on?

Sorry for the confusion. (My age is showing. I started on PC's in the early 80's where any series of commands initiated by one keyed in input was a product of a "hot key". I just continued to use the term into the age of the internet.) I should have said "link". The link on the page is "read", referring to the reviews written by prior purchasers of the item. When I hit the link it is supposed to go down to the bottom of the page and then import the several reviews. This is how it works when I am in Internet Explorer. I am assuming that Firefox is not allowing the import onto the page of the several reviews. When Firefox blocks a popup it asks me what it should do. In the instance I am describing Firefox just does not import the reviews.

Also, more generally speaking, when you have a problem with one particular site, a good "first thing to try" is clearing your Firefox cache and deleting your saved cookies for the site.

(1) Bypass Firefox's Cache

Use Ctrl+Shift+r to reload the page fresh from the server.

(You also can clear Firefox's cache completely using:

orange Firefox button or Tools menu > Options > Advanced

On the Network mini-tab > Cached Web Content : "Clear Now")

(2) Remove your buy.com cookies (save any pending work first) using either of these. While viewing a page on the site:

  • right-click and choose View Page Info > Security > "View Cookies"
  • Alt+t (open the classic Tools menu) > Page Info > Security > "View Cookies"

Then try reloading the page. Does that help?

Safe mode allowed me to access the reviews that were missing on the first go around. I will now go through the addon/extensions to determine the villain(s) and change/modify/delete. It seems like it is Buy.com's method of providing the reviews. The other sites just have a set page with the data and I have no problem getting to the reviews. It is only when they are added to the page. Thank you for the help.
