Hi "iamjayakumars"

[ ] Use hardware acceleration when available ... is always OFF

Ran FF in safe-mode -- problem persists, no DuckDuckGo icon, on "Add-on" bar

(installed DDG 24 hours ago -- refer to my original question ... Firefox 19 was "clean installed" 3 days ago ... Clean install by Revo uninstaller, manually checked registry for all mentions of mozilla, Thunderbird and Firefox ... Rebooted ... Deleted "C:\Documents and Settings\Owner\Application Data\Mozilla" folder ... (WinXP sp3) ... Rebooted ... So all traces (I hope) of Firefox have been exterminated. I cannot think of a cleaner install. Have I missed something?

+1 an endless problem I have had https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/questions/947931 since the beginning of Jan 2013. An ever expanding Library > Add Bookmark/Folder dialog (I have to reset FFox every 5 days because the dialog is wider than my screen)

Safe mode has revealed the Library > Add Bookmark/folder shows in the correct width -- but only in safe mode.

But I still dont have "DuckDuckGo" on the "AddOns" toolbar

Is it possible an imported HTML Bookmarks file can be corrupt. (I am considering opening the HTML in a text reader (metapad) -- copying the HTML contents to another TXT file and saving as TXT file -- open the TXT file in metapad and SaveAs as HTML .... any ideas ?

If possible post screenshots then we can see what you see, both regarding the library problem and DuckDuckGo

What is the Add-on that you are installing, or already have installed

  • full name & version
  • where did you get it from (Name & web address of site

Note DuckDuckGo is already availableto use from the search bar

Thank you "john99" for your response,

LIBRARY PROBLEM:

Images of the growing "Library > Add Bookmark/Folder" dialog.

Each image is one day apart ...

Deleted "C:\Documents and Settings\Owner\Application Data\Mozilla" folder to eliminate corrupted profile or any other files -- before clean installing FFox 19.0 -- did not resolve growing dialog -- no plugins. (See my previous post in this thread for details)

I now wonder if the imported HTML Bookmarks file might be corrupted ?

ADDON "DuckDuckGo"

https://support.cdn.mozilla.net/media/uploads/images/2013-03-06-23-24-24-e201e8.png

  • Full name and Version:= DuckDuckGo for Firefox 0.2.16

Name and Web Address:=

Result:-

  • Day one (yesterday) DDG icon was very last icon to right of search-bar
  • Day two icon was/is gone ... contacted DuckDuck

My thread:- "Duck icon on address bar has disappeared ?" ...

https://duck.co/topic/duck-icon-on-address-bar-has-disappeared

DDG forum thread advised to drag DDG icon from FFox "Addons" toolbar ... But that is when I discovered my "Addons" toolbar is empty, no DDG icon !

Lost icon, extreme right of search-bar, is a known bug in DDG

Duck-egg on my face

The last time I "played" with search engines I think was with Win95 in 1995 ... The drop-down/combobox had the [\/] on the right of the combo (like most combo and listboxes I write.

As my wife would say I had a boy-look -- the drop-down is on the left-side of the search-bar.

Your link https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/search-bar-easily-choose-your-search-engine has been invaluable. It all makes sence now.

Glad to see part of the problem is resolved.

The new bookmarks input dialogue box is resizeable. So you should be able to change the size using the mouse (Click & hold on edge or corner & drag).

I imagine it remembers the last opening size, and also adjusts for the size of the input.

Note also that a useful alternative method of bookmarking if you have the page open in a tab is to click on the star at the end of the location bar.

  1. (general) Bookmarks in Firefox
  2. How do I delete a bookmark?

Looking quickly I could not see a link about adding the bookmarks that way. If the star is white the option is to add, including add new folders, tags, and use last few folders or navigate the library tree. If it is yellow it instead says edit and gives options similar to in the 2nd link.

This is one of the screenshots from article 2

Hi "john99"

I am getting there ! Busy business, so I will delay further investigations until the weekend, it is Friday here already.

According to "corel" at https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/questions/947931

the "Library >Add Bookmark/Folder" dialog is only resizable in Linux.

I know with earlier versions of FFox I could/did resize the "Add-Bookmark/Folder" dialog width.

But now it will not resize (WinXP sp3) No grap icons. ... but at what version that ceased I don't remember.

With lengthy description-text I have to create the bookmark in Library, then edit the keywords and description in resizable Library window.

I make heavy use of the Libraries "Description" field (and keywords) so the "Book Mark This Page" dialog is of little use to me, it does not have the "Description" nor "Keywords" fields -- and to scroll thru a plethora of folders and sub folders is too slow (the the "Book Mark This Page" dialog is too small.)

https://support.cdn.mozilla.net/media/uploads/images/2013-03-07-12-22-14-e99ca1.png

With "ClipX" (a clipboard tool) I can grab multiple strings , open Library, and all my folders + subfolders are layed out full screen. Easy to find my sub-sub-sub folder etc.

All that is left to resolve is the ever growing "Library > Add Bookmark/Folder" dialog -- I will get to it on this weekend.

DuckDuckGo is now over to the duck-community, but I am happy with what you gave me "click on the LEFT side of search-bar not the RIGHT"

Thanks again,

You may as well continue discussing the resizing folder in your other thread

I am sure cor-el understands that problem far better than I.
