The Reset Firefox feature can fix many issues by restoring Firefox to its factory default state while saving your essential information. Note: This will cause you to lose any Extensions, Open websites, and some Preferences.

To Reset Firefox do the following:

  1. Go to Firefox > Help > Troubleshooting Information.
  2. Click the "Reset Firefox" button.
  3. Firefox will close and reset. After Firefox is done, it will show a window with the information that is imported. Click Finish.
  4. Firefox will open with all factory defaults applied.

Further information can be found in the Refresh Firefox - reset add-ons and settings article.

Thank you ut I dont want to lose my extensions, maybe I should downgrade....

more options

Don't downgrade, Firefox 18 has critical security issues that are fixed in 19 that you don't want to leave open.

Write down your extensions, Reset Firefox, then re-install your extensions.

Doesnt anyone else have this problem?

Can you open a new window?
more options

Yes, I can open a new window, and so can all other users. This is something wrong with your setup, likely one of your extensions broke this. Which is why a Reset is necessary.

more options

Start Firefox in Safe Mode to check if one of the extensions (Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Extensions) or if hardware acceleration is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Appearance).

  • Do NOT click the Reset button on the Safe mode start window or otherwise make changes.

It's not just you I have been having problems ever since the update and so has my husband. I'm getting tired of having to reboot my computer. Not to mention that since the update I can't get my computer to shutdown properly. So not it's not just you. I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling, my husband restored his computer. I don't understand why there is constant update on things that are fine to begin with.....

Hi millhouse2525, it sounds as though your problem is different than the original poster here. Would you mind starting a new question and including your system information (e.g., operating system) and add-ons?

You can start here: https://support.mozilla.org/questions/new/desktop/fix-problems

Also, could you describe whether you are restarting because Windows crashes or because Firefox will not exit properly?

Doesn't matter I'm going to uninstall firefox and will never use it again. I have restored my computer and tried resetting firefox. I have uninstalled reinstalled and yet it freezes my computer. I can't even close it out with the task manager. So the way i see it firefox is of equal hatred as i.e. for me. Whatever updates were done with it is just really messing up my computer......

Hi millhouse2525, of course you should use the browser that works best for you. If you find that you miss Firefox and want to give it another try, please try the forum again. Other users are constantly updating our knowledge with the results of their experiments (e.g., removing certain troublesome Windows updates) and as you know, each release of Firefox has hundreds of bug fixes.
