Somehow those got inserted into your home page setting. This article describes how to edit it: How to set the home page.

Help! I have been uninstalling, then re-installing Firefox to try and stop this problem. However, pages are still coming up on my screen, for example 'my supermarket' with a page for Sainsburys which I don't even use for groceries. Also - a 'gaming page' & I never, ever play games. What can I do please anyone? Thanks

Hi ClarieM, where do you see the problem?

If it's on your home page only, please see this article about changing your home page: How to set the home page.

If it's on various pages, new tab page, etc., please start with the following: disable ALL nonessential or unrecognized add-ons on these two tabs. If in doubt, disable.

orange Firefox button (or Tools menu) > Add-ons > Plugins category
orange Firefox button (or Tools menu) > Add-ons > Extensions category

Then use one of links that usually appears above a disabled extensions to restart Firefox.

Some add-ons may change Firefox settings, so deactivating it doesn't always stop the problem completely.

Please report back on what needs cleaning (e.g., new tab page, changes get undone when you start up, etc.).

Hi ClarieM, sometimes if you install free software, it comes along with unwanted adware. You may want to run some supplemental security scans. These three tools for Windows are highly regarded (and free):

Hi there. Many thanks! I'm not sure what it means by 'home page' - sorry I am a complete 'technophobe'! I had gone & downloaded a PDF document over a week ago -- big mistake! But I do have Malwarebytes which 'cleared' everything. I do have a local 'computer expect' who can help, but to be honest, can't afford to hire him just now. It was he recommended Firefox & all worked perfectly well until about 10 days ago. I seem to get the same 2 sites just come up & fill the page - so that means 'home page'? I have tried going into add ons, plugs ins, etc. but can't make it out. At present Malwarebytes is no longer picking up nothing suspicious and I also have AVAST free - again recommended by this excellent chap who is amazing. I won't be on till later now as need to get out - I only use laptop for all this - limiting new Smartphone use to the minimum - I'm from the 'older generation'! Thanks so much for your time and trouble - I've already spent a lot of time on this & really can't tackle any more till tomorrow. But, many thanks!! (Claire)

Hi ClarieM, the home page is the page you set to come up when you start Firefox. It also appears when you click the house icon on the toolbar.

I'm confident you can find the Disable button for the various plugins and extensions. On the plugin list, I suggest keeping Shockwave Flash enabled. I think it's worth trying to disable everything else on both tabs. You can always go back and enable it again if a site says it needs a plugin.
