Are you using an FTP add-on, or are you connection through a link or the URL bar?

Unlike IE, Firefox does not have a built-in FTP client, so if an FTP site does not allow browsing, you could use an add-on or external program. For example:

FireFTP extension: https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/addon/fireftp/

Note: FireFTP integrates with Firefox's built-in password saving feature. If you don't normally use that feature and you want to secure your FTP passwords, you will need to set a master password. More info: Use a Primary Password to protect stored logins and passwords.
