I have two websites for personal use (as an online portfolio), however when I come to 'copy' and 'paste' any information across (as the sites share a common theme) it adds in a lot of question marks all over the stretch of text. This is incredibly annoying as they don't show up when initially pasting across, but only when posting so I've been having to post twice to get it to look correct. This issue has been happening on every PC I've tried to access my site on (and they all only have firefox) - will I need to change up my browser or is there something I'm missing?

  • I have tried about 14 different PCs and they all do the same thing so I'm really puzzled as to what could be causing it.

This maybe an encoding issue.

Are both sites using the same encoding (e.g. Unicode UTF-8)?

  • Tools > Page Info > General
  • Firefox > Web Developer > Character Encoding
  • View > Character Encoding

Start Firefox in Safe Mode to check if one of the extensions (Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Extensions) or if hardware acceleration is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Appearance).

  • Do NOT click the Reset button on the Safe Mode start window or otherwise make changes.
