The back button suddenly stopped working, after upgrading to the newest version of Firefox, the Bookmarks 'star' button doesn't work and all of my bookmarks are missing.

This forum's software that you posted here with Firefox 12.0, not the latest Firefox 21.0 version. Different PC than the one you are posting about?

If it is the same PC, see this:

Problems with bookmarks and history not working properly can be caused by a corrupted places.sqlite database file.

You can check for problems with the places.sqlite database file in the Firefox profile folder.
