Somewhere along the line while trying to open a pdf file, Microsoft Word was selected. Now, every time I try to open a pdf file it takes me to Microsoft Word where, obviously, it won't open. How do I negate the directive to Microsoft Word and apply Adobe Reader instead?

You can try the Options dialog. This article, while not addressing the Word issue, describes the steps to get to the drop-down list to choose a program: View PDF files using Firefox’s built-in viewer. Does that help?
