How can I restore the functionality of the Bookmarks shortcut. I DO NOT LIKE internet explorer, it is cumbersome and slow. How can I modify the bookmarks shortcut to act like a menu again? I do not like the bookmarks and history pop-out... Firefox was above the bar, now I have 2 copies of internet explorer on my computer, one with an icon that looks like an E and one that looks like my old firefox browser.... This was a result of the update 23.0.1 this morning, it was perfect when I went to bed last night.... Maybe I should use Chrome?

Chosen solution

delete the localstore.rdf if you are having issues with toolbar buttons.

To find this file go to FIrefox button => Help => Troubleshooting Information => Open Profile Folder and delete localstore.rdf when firefox is closed

Doesnt look like you updated firefox this morning.

User Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 6.1; WOW64; rv:23.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/23.0

And there is no changes in the way firefox shows your bookmarks, can you provide a screenshot.

Sorry about the picture, I have 2 monitors, but it helps to point out the problem. On the left screen is a copy of Ice Dragon not updated yet, reflecting the older bookmark menu style, whereas on the right shows an updated Firefox.

Thanks for the help guys this is stupidly frustrating.

as you can see, I run Firefox, Thunderbird, Ice Dragon--- I am all over the Mozilla d**k, you guys have rocked since the Firefox preview edition! Seeing Firefox act like IE breaks my heart after watching them claim the fame of tabbed browsing.

there are two different bookmark buttons in the customize controls panel. the one you've placed in your rught screenshot is the one to open the bookmarks sidebar, the other one available opens the bookmarks menu...

I thought I had noticed that, however, the one with the little arrow just keeps disappearing, it was replaced by the other style and I cannot get it to stay there. I tried to do a quick restore to defaults on the browser and that didn't help anything. When I am using the menu from "Customize" it shows them both but when I close the customization box and return to browsing the menu is gone.

I am a little relieved the option is still there, though, you definitely saved the second half of my coffee and the next person to walk by this morning.

does it work as expected when you launch firefox in safe mode once (to rule out the interfering of any addons)?

WAKA WAKA! LOL, DUDE NICE! Renamed the localstore.rdf with a .bak and the shortcuts are functional again. Just had to re-customize the look of my browser but I already did that twice this morning, so no big deal. Very Much appreciated guys. Thanks for the help.
