When I go to a website requiring login, and am logged in automatically, I still get prompted by Software Security Defice for master password. New w/Firefox 24.

If I go to a website that requires a login & password, and I have it set up to automatically log me in, I get automatically logged in (it remembers by userid & password for that site), but the prompt from the Software Security Device for my master password appears as well. I can cancel the prompt and it goes away, but it shouldn't show up because I'm already logged in. This problem started happening after I downloaded Firefox 24 yesterday.

Chosen solution

Start Firefox in Safe Mode to check if one of the extensions (Firefox/Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Extensions) or if hardware acceleration is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox/Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Appearance).

  • Do NOT click the Reset button on the Safe Mode start window.

Note that Firefox Sync also requires you to enter the Master Password.

I tried tried what you suggested and still had the problem. Then I tried logging off of the site, then revisited it and let it log on automatically again, and I did not get the prompt--it was as if the software security device didn't recognize I was logged on to that site, but once I logged off and let it log on again, the problem disappeared. Works fine now. thanks

none of this is working. So what now? It's really irritating.  :-(
