Whatever Firefox page I'm on, including Google gmail, typing Shift+a opens a new Firefox window. Obviously, my intention is simple to obtain an uppercase 'a'. I can get around this by using Caps Lock, but this is an absurd method.

Did you try to close and restart Firefox or reboot the computer?

You can start Firefox in Safe Mode to check if one of the extensions (Firefox/Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Extensions) or if hardware acceleration is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox/Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Appearance).

  • Do NOT click the Reset button on the Safe Mode start window.
