Hello,

Try Firefox Safe Mode to see if the problem goes away. Safe Mode is a troubleshooting mode, which disables most add-ons.

(If you're not using it, switch to the Default theme.)

  • On Windows you can open Firefox 4.0+ in Safe Mode by holding the Shift key when you open the Firefox desktop or Start menu shortcut.
  • On Mac you can open Firefox 4.0+ in Safe Mode by holding the option key while starting Firefox.
  • On Linux you can open Firefox 4.0+ in Safe Mode by quitting Firefox and then going to your Terminal and running: firefox -safe-mode (you may need to specify the Firefox installation path e.g. /usr/lib/firefox)
  • Or open the Help menu and click on the Restart with Add-ons Disabled... menu item while Firefox is running.

FirefoxSafeMode

Once you get the pop-up, just select "'Start in Safe Mode" Safe Mode Fx 15 - Win

If the issue is not present in Firefox Safe Mode, your problem is probably caused by an extension, and you need to figure out which one. Please follow the Troubleshoot extensions, themes and hardware acceleration issues to solve common Firefox problems article for that.

To exit the Firefox Safe Mode, just close Firefox and wait a few seconds before opening Firefox for normal use again.

When you figure out what's causing your issues, please let us know. It might help other users who have the same problem.

Thank you.

does it also happen with other browsers on your system?

Problems with bookmarks and history not working properly can be caused by a corrupted places.sqlite database file.

You can check for problems with the places.sqlite database file in the Firefox profile folder.

Thank you all Waka_Flocka_Flame, cor-el and philipp .

@philipp: Once I saw your post I said to myself what this problem has to do with any other browser?! I am using Firefox browser and have no intention to switch to any other one, But I tried anyway to open Google and Facebook by using Internet Explorer and Opera browsers! I was SHOCKED, philip! The same thing happens with each one of them and the update page (for each one) appeared again! Does it mean that the issue is not about only browsers it is about Operating System or even Internet Connection as well?! This problem is driving me CRAZY :O Any other ideas philip and other dear contributors :). I appreciate your help.

hey hasan, thanks for reporting back - you might want to try resetting your system's HOSTS file as it is described in http://support.microsoft.com/kb/972034/ and see if this can address the problem.

you might also want to run a full scan of your system with the security software that you have in place and different other tools like the free version of malwarebytes & adwcleaner to make sure nothing shady is going on...

Does this only happen when you use a bookmark or also when you type or paste an URL in the location bar and press Enter or click the Go button?

Thanks for your reply, cor-el; It happens when I either click the link saved on my bookmarks bar or typing the full link in the address bar myself then pressing <Enter or Go button>. BTW: I have also performed a full scan on my hard drives using new updated version of Avira Anti-Virus but nothing changed. Any more ideas? I appreciate your help.
