bookmarks are blacking out as I scroll over them, making it impossible to see ANY bookmarks

When I try to scroll through my bookmark column, they "black out"; and as I continue to scroll, they eventually all black out, making the bookmark column useless. This also happens on the "firefox" pulldown.
