Firefox displays bookmarks in many places: menu, toolbar, sidebar, Library dialog (Command+Shift+b). They also can be pinned to the new tab page and displayed as matches in the suggestions that appear when you type in the address bar.

The menu/toolbar also include some special blue "smart folders" which show things like recently added bookmarks and most visited pages. These are not actually bookmarks, so if you want to change/remove those, different steps might be required.

So... it would be great if you could describe in more detail where the problem is and what you have tried.

Problems with bookmarks and history not working properly can be caused by a corrupted places.sqlite database file.

You can check for problems with the places.sqlite database file in the Firefox profile folder.
