I want to block the pop up adds that keep appearing? Lately that have a sound track which is really annoying. I read one post that referenced pop-ups that are coming from Mozilla. Can these be blocked?

Don't trust the ads to tell you their source honestly. ;-)

To see whether they could be generated by one of your add-ons, could you try Firefox's Safe Mode? That's a standard diagnostic tool to bypass interference by extensions (and some custom settings). More info: Diagnose Firefox issues using Troubleshoot Mode.

You can restart Firefox in Safe Mode using

Help > Restart with Add-ons Disabled

In the dialog, click "Start in Safe Mode" (not Reset)

Any difference?

Do a malware check with some malware scanning programs on the Windows computer.
Please scan with all programs because each program detects different malware.
All these programs have free versions.

Make sure that you update each program to get the latest version of their databases before doing a scan.

You can also do a check for a rootkit infection with TDSSKiller.

Hello dandnm,

also after you check for malware (as cor-el said in his reply), and after you check in safe mode (as jscher2000 said in his reply), another useful add-on (btw excellent choice the adblock-plus-pop-up-addon as toddy_victor said above) is NoScript add-on (some popups opened through JavaScript are beyond the realm of the internal blocker) with NoScript you can choose the websites you want to use JavaScript, it is a little agressive but excellent choice.

thank you
