Adobe Flash will not install

more options

Trying to download and install Adobe Flash. Adobe says the current version is 12.0.0.43. When downloading it from Adobe http://get.adobe.com/flashplayer/, the version says 12x32_mssd_aaa_aih.exe. Don't understand that. After saving it and trying to install it, it will say that (only a single instance of this application can run). Clicking the OK button didn't help by eliminating one . I have done an Adobe Flash uninstall, tried re-booting, no Firefox applications are running and use the download folder to install. Same thing happens. I have had this problem before with the flash updates, and by making sure Firefox was not on, and installing from the download folder after doing a adobe uninstall seemed to work. Not now. Tried udating Firefox 26 to 27. I also have Chrome as another browser. But that was never a problem before. Sure would like some help. Thanks.

Chosen solution

I had the exact problem. For some reason that I no longer recall, I regretfully uninstalled Adobe Flash Player while trying to update all my free Adobe downloads. I could no longer install Flash Player (of course I always uncheck the McAfee box) and got the same message as explained above. Therefore, in Firefox only, I could not view videos. That was so frustrating! I tried many solutions and researched and tried again for a few days but to no avail. Note that I work in the French version of Windows 8.1 and the French version of all applications. So I researched in both languages for a solution. Then, today, I ended up here and tried the simple install link (the short version in one of the answers) and it worked! For those who might need to know, the French version was installed with that same link since Adobe always recognizes the language I work in. I am SO happy! I will keep that link in a safe place in my OneNote. To all, thank you! Merci beaucoup!

When I copy the link, I see that the name was shortened for the comment but the original link I used is: http://download.macromedia.com/pub/flashplayer/current/support/install_flash_player.exe

Based on the filename, that seems like the version bundled with McAfee or some such. Try the clean version instead. Close all applications and reboot the computer before trying to install it.

Thanks Gingerbread Man. I appreciate the quick reply., and the download works just fine. Yes, it was bundled with mcafee, but I always uncheck the box. Guess that's not the best way. Where did you find the clean download may ask? I looked in Adobe, but all I found were bundled downloads. Thanks again.

You're welcome.

I found the link buried in the following support article. It always points to the latest version, whatever it may be.

You may also want to bookmark the link to the uninstaller, which is handy when something goes wrong and the Flash Player installation needs a clean slate.
