hello gbholajte, can you provide a screenshot of the message you're getting?
you're right not to proceed with any installation request of a software which origin is unclear or that you don't know and haven't specifically requested yourself.
this might already be a sign of some sort of adware being present on your pc. therefore i'd suggest to go to firefox > addons > extensions & to remove any suspicious entries (toolbars, things that you have not installed intentionally, don't know what purpose they serve, etc).
also go to the windows control panel / programs and remove all toolbars or potentially unwanted software from there.
finally, run a full scan of your system with different security tools like the free version of malwarebytes & adwcleaner.
I will provide a screen print the very next time the pop-ups appear. McAfee just cleaned up unwanted tool bars. I will peruse them again and delete more if needed.
You should only update plugins via their official website.
Otherwise this is an invitation to install malware and you can (should) ignore this pop-up.
this is clearly triggered by adware trying to get you to install more malicious stuff, so please don't download or install anything that is provided this way.
please perform the steps already recommended above:
- go to firefox > addons > extensions & to remove any suspicious entries (toolbars, things that you have not installed intentionally, don't know what purpose they serve, etc).
- also go to the windows control panel / programs and remove all toolbars or potentially unwanted software from there.
- run a full scan of your system with different security tools like the free version of malwarebytes & adwcleaner.
