hey, i was writing my reply while you were uploading your screenshot, so i didn't see it at first. by the looks of it, it looks totally genuine so you should be alright there.
for comparison i'll attach the update screen i get (on windows 7):

hello Net2868, first you're right to be careful about such notices, since recently it has become a fairly often used tactic by malicious websites to try to trick users into downloading malware-infested versions of the browser. as a rule of thumb, when you are getting prompted to download and run a .exe file to update firefox, it will be a scam, since firefox handles updates internally...
firefox 27.0.1 was indeed released today - you can initiate a manual check for updates under firefox > help > about firefox. the update notification as you've described it sounds pretty genuine (you can attach a screenshot to a reply here on the forum though).
Hey Philip, Should have mentioned that the LINKS and buttons did not resolve to URLs. Also, ctl-U for page html source code did not function. And never have seen such an update notice from FF in 8 years.
DO like your idea to see if i get an exe file vs the FF auto-update process. will run mwb to see if it is detectable. Thanks, ricardo
