Forgot master pw; used chrome://pippki/content/resetpassword.xul to reset it, indicates reset successful; close FF 24.4.0; restart; FF asks again for master pw.

Deleted ./.mozilla/firefox/e052w6iw.default/signons.sqlite Deleted ./.mozilla/firefox/e052w6iw.default/key3.db

reset master pw again with same string as above; FF asks again for master pw

RHEL 6 FF 24.4.0

Chosen solution

A reset will try to recover names and passwords and that might not work if involved files are corrupted.

Deleting the signons.sqlite and key3.db files with Firefox closed should be sufficient under normal conditions and if there is no other (security) software interfering.

Was Firefox closed when you deleted these files?

You can use this button to go to the currently used Firefox profile folder:

  • Help > Troubleshooting Information > Profile Directory: Show Folder (Linux: Open Directory; Mac: Show in Finder)

Are there still names and passwords present in the Password Manager?
