When I open Firefox the cursor is by default in the Google search window in the middle of the screen. I don't want it there, I want it in the address bar. How can this be made to happen?

Chosen solution

If you don't use that homepage you can change it to "about:blank" which I believe may focus the address bar instead when new windows open.
