Is the following a scam or do I need to action, if so how? Update your sign-in technology before September 16th, 2024 to maintain email access. The safety and security of your information is top priority for Microsoft. To help keep your account secure, Microsoft will no longer support the use of third-party email and calendar apps which ask you to sign in with only your Microsoft Account username and password. To keep you safe you will need to use a mail or calendar app which supports Microsoft’s modern authentication methods. If you do not act, your third-party email apps will no longer be able to access your Outlook.com, Hotmail or Live.com email address on September 16th.

What do you need to do?

If you are receiving this email, you are currently using an email or calendar app that uses a less secure authentication method to connect to your Outlook.com email account. You will need to upgrade your third-party mail and calendar app to a version which supports modern authentication methods.

Microsoft provides free versions of Outlook for your PC, Mac, iOS, and Android devices which can be easily downloaded and connect to your email account. Using an updated version of an Outlook application will ensure you are connecting in the most secure way.

How can you set up your Gmail, Apple Mail, or other third-party mail application?

Various non-Microsoft applications will have their own steps for connecting to your Outlook.com email account using modern authentication methods. See our help article - Modern Authentication Methods now needed to continue syncing Outlook Email in non-Microsoft email apps. However, you may need to contact the creators of those applications to provide you with instructions. In many cases, simply removing and re-adding your account with the latest version of that application will configure it to use modern authentication methods.

As a Thunderbird user and supporter, I have never had this current problem. I have two PC's this one running windows 11 version 128.2.0 (64 bit)and the other running Linux Mint. However the version on Linux is 115.13.0 (64 bit). Both have one add-on for google email, calendar, and contacts. to stay in sync. In trouble shooting I have disabled the extension's.

Before the update to 128.2.0 I could scroll back a month and open any email coming to me. However in this version I can only go back 6 days of messages. The 7th day and older will not open. On my Linux Mint system with 115.13.0, I can go back years and open any message.

Is there a new setting that changed all this? I was under the impression all messages were saved to my local drive and not pulled off the Google server. 73's Ed

Hello, I have spent considerable time scouring help forums, but still unable to resolve. I am running Windows 10 that is fully patched, and most recent version of Thunderbird.

In my recent attempt to setup gmail; - I used Chrome as default browser with default security settings - I turned off 2fa in Google - I turned off VPN - I left gmail password blank during account setup in TB - authentication initially fails during setup, so I then select manual config and normal password. This allows TB to supposedly complete gmail account setup successfully. - browser opens up requesting TB access to gmail, (Allowed Apps in Google include TB) - I change gmail server settings to Oauth2 and restart TB - The saved passwords in TB only list an Oauth2 pwd for calendar, but no entry for email.

How do I get TB to request and store credential for imap.gmail.com?

Thank you for your help, Jeff

Hello, I've been using thunderbird since 2013, and have never had as many issues as I have this year. I reinstalled Thunderbird (uninstalled with revo uninstaller so nothing stayed), and then installed the latest version fresh. This seemed to smooth out most of my issues, but I haven't been able to solve this one..

I use Thunderbird because I have multiple email accounts to monitor and like them all in one place. The latest problem that I am having is that my "sent" email is showing up as giberish (sometimes.. Not every email, and not always on the same account).

My system is Windows 11 Home 64-bit

I will attach a screen shot of: 1. My current version of Tbird 2. The email that displays in Tbird 3. The email that displays in Gmail

Thank you in advance! -Eric

Hello,

I've been looking for a way to disable the column resizing when resizing the window. I would much prefer the Message Pane to resize instead of the Message List.

Current situation:

- Set to Vertical Layout: Message List is on the left of the Message Pane.
- Resize TB's window: the last column of the Message List grows to compensate the extra space and all columns shrink if window size is reduced beyond a certain threshold.

Preferred situation:

- Resizing the TB's window changes the Message Pane size and does not affect the Message List columns.

I am constantly constantly adjusting column sizes to compensate when I connect to an external screen or when maximizing TB. I can't find a preference to change this behavior. Fixing the Message List columns sizes and adjusting the Message Pane size would be much better and more natural. If I compare to browsers, toolbars and sidebars are always fixed size while the webpage adjusts to the new window size, especially when changing screens. The same should be possible in TB.

The topic that best describes my question is not in the list :-(

I got the dreaded email saying outlook 2007 will stop working in september 2024 but am very confused.

Bit of background, we run a small family partnership and have 20 years of archive .pst files. We use outlook 2007 to store our customers details in the address book along with their order details, customer number etc. Plus we use the calendar for important dates like tax and when to pay suppliers.

We have our own domains (9 in total with several email address for each - about 30 email addresses) which we download the emails from into outlook 2007 so we can store those emails and orders in the .pst file and easily find them again plus archive them each year. Outlook gives us the choice of if the emails should be removed from the server or not - some we do and some we don't for various reasons.

I have downloaded thunderbird as that is what was suggested as a replacement. Tried importing, some things came across and some didn't. Some emails, except those in the sent folder, came across. None of the accounts came across nor the address book. The folder tree was very odd too as all folders were under a folder called "outlook import". I had added my hotmail address when i first opened thunderbird and then added one of our domains emails manually, it showed all the folders in that domain email, that is not really want i wanted, i just want to download the emails in the inbox of our email address. Then i would move it to where it needed to be - orders, customer questions, suppliers emails etc.

I then saw in the help files that i should use the 31 version then upgrade after importing, so i started again.

I started with the address book as that is very important as i have 31k in there. Very little info came across, some were missing names, some missing customer numbers, and it is very difficult to get to the "other" field which contains all their order numbers. With outlook all of that is there when you open a contact AND when you view as a list.

So my questions to start with are .....

1. Which version of thunderbird should i be using to import outlook 2007?

2. How do i get all the contact info over?

3. How can i make the address book interface more user friendly?

4. Is outlook 2007 actually going to stop working for how we work or have i been misled?

Hope someone can help or point me in the direct of other help available. I have already read a lot of the help files, questions and answers and felt so confused i thought i would just ask :-)

since I installed Ubuntu 24.04 Thunderbird (V. 128.1.0 as snap app) changes the path of the local directory each time I restart Thunderbird. My original path to the local directory points to a mounted drive e.g. /media/username/disk... Thunderbird changes it to /run/usr/1000/doc/.... How can I avoid this? The same thing happens also to the path of the signature file.

Hi there,

So, I have a professional account with outlook.office365.com for my professional email (which is aleclercq@sobemab.fr). But I use my personal email to contact you right now. We have Black in Mail operating for all new email and then I can't get email from you unless you authenticate yourself.

Anyway, my configuration is : HP computer, windows 11 Professional (build 22631.4112) Thunderbird version 128.2.0esr (64-bit). Add-on Owl for exchange.

Now, when I launch Thunderbird, it connect properly and I do receive emails. All good.

But the problem comes when I want to SEND an email. It doesn' t work. I have attached some screenshots for you to see. It will be easier that way, I guess. I'll appreciate your help on that matter ASAP. Outlook is ok, but I can't stand it and I really want to use Thunderbird. :)

Thank you Best Regards Alexandre

I have used MailStore Home to archive then export an Outlook PST file into Thunderbird. The Export appears to have worked, but I notice that the resulting file structure in Thunderbird Local Folders has "MailStore Export / Outlook Outlook Data File / Inbox", with all my folders residing under the inbox folder (which they should). Is there a way I can change the Local Folder structure to remove the top level "MailStore Export / Outlook Outlook Data File" and leave the top level as "Inbox"? See image.

In the Thunderbird calendar, I'm trying to create a repeating event that occurs on the fourth Wednesday from Sep 25, 2024 through Jan 22, 2025.

But each time I try to set it up, using Jan 22 as the end date, Thunderbird changes the end date to Jan 21 and so the last event does not get created. I've tried several times and this keeps happening.

Hello,

I am still having problems with Thunderbird crashing on startup

I first asked about this issue on the 2nd September, here: https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/questions/1461731

I have been submitting Crash reports per business day except for the last couple.

Here are the Submitted Crash ID's, I have been submitting reports as the crashes happen. :

More available if needed

Notably, I have 2 computers each with Thunderbird, each accessing the same account. I have no problem on the other computer. I am using no addons on the crashing computer. I have uninstalled and reinstalled the latest version, computer restarts - still crashing. I have checked my RAM. 16GB on board - Basic Graphics Processing - Intel Iris XE.

Any assistance would be appreciated.

My Thunderbird just upgraded to v128.2esr Nebula

I was using Cards view and it was nice, but it seems the Cards just got wider vertically. They used to be 2 lines of height, and now they are 3 lines.

As I understand, the 3rd lines is only used to display "X replies", but I use the "Unthreaded" sort option, so the 3rd line is always empty for me, and takes more space for nothing.

As you know, vertical screen estate is limited with our 16:9 screen, so please give us an option to reduce the cards view vertical size (or have it automatically remove that 3rd line in Unthreaded view)

thanks

HI! For the message "newer version of Thunderbird may have made changes to your profile", I was able to click on new profile & got all my email back (I think) but my folders under Local Folders are gone. Can I get them back?

The very informative page for this topic says that "You will not lose any personal data or customizations. Any previous profile data is saved and associated with the first Thunderbird installation that was opened after this change." Does that include Local Folders set up on the old version?
