Do you have a "start" -button? Is Thunderbird among programs? Right-click and copy that link to your desktop.

Or right-click on your desktop and create a new link 

"C:\Program Files (x86)\Mozilla Thunderbird\thunderbird.exe"

If you want it on your activity-bar, just drag the icon there.
