Firefox replaces "fi" with a dual-char arrow in address bar. If you type in "fi" into address bar it gets replaced/rendered incorrectly instantly. I fount other combinations: ff creates a horizontal bar, like pipe character and ffi create arrow pointing upwards

I'm running firefox 42.0-1 from official Arch repos, using microsoft fonts. Everything is updated.

Start Firefox in Safe Mode {web Link} by holding down the <Shift>
(Mac Options)
key, and then starting Firefox. Is the problem still there?

That could be a problem with a font that supports ligatures and isn't working properly.

You could try to set a different default font in the Linux font settings (gnome-appearance-properties).
