I have a new server for my work email and the server is GoDaddy. The incoming server works fine, but I have repeatedly reset this outgoing server in TB, and cannot get it to send messages. Can anyone help with this-I am semi-literate with TB and have set up other accounts that work.

Thak you!

Chosen solution

You're using the horrible new Application Menu.

One thing I heartily dislike about it is that different things happen if you hover or if you click. You clicked. Please hover over Help instead.

What gets me is that there is no clear direction as to which elements will respond to hovering, or indeed clicking.

Most advice here is given for the previous and traditional Menu, across the top. <alt> + v should make this visible. .

I do get error messages-connect error 10060- and it says: An error occurred while sending mail. "The mail server sent an incorrect greeting. Cannon connect to SMTP server". It hen lests the SMTP server numbers and then a bunch of same numbers with the port # in ( ). Each attempt to send a message has different server numbers. I am using my Yahoo server to send messages from this account until I can get that smtpout.secureserver.net working

I appreciate your response and help if you are able to come up with something!

When I clicked on the TB menu on the right, then Help, below is what I got for choices of what to do, that's where I stopped and went back and copied my error message for that server and pasted it above.

Which account is giving trouble?

I can't see any of these accounts using the server you mentioned: smtpout.secureserver.net.

Your incoming secureserver account (imap.secureserver.net) is still set to use yahoo's smtp server.

I have the uneasy feeling that you have tried to alter an existing account; it's always much cleaner to create a new account.

You will need to add the smtp server, if you haven't already done so, under Tools|Account Settings. Go right down to the bottom, look for the last item in the list, Outgoing Server (SMTP) and there you can add your new server. But this would have been done automatically for you if you added it as a new account, whereas it looks to me as if you've tried to edit an old account.

Tools|Account Settings|{select the account}|Account Settings and down at the bottom of the right-hand pane, Outgoing Server (SMTP) is where you select the server to use.

I did alter an account because when I tried to do a new account with my email address that was the same as for the old server we migrated from, Thunderbird wouldn't let me set up a new one with the same email. So we altered the existing one. As for the yahoo smtp server showing up, I got rid of the smtpout server since it wasn't sending and hooked my email up with the yahoo one for now. I already lost all my folders when I altered the existing email account, so what will happen if I do that and delete the email account?
