Chosen solution

I understand that you're frustrated, but it only takes a couple minutes to copy the files. Take it step by step. Do not delete anything, that will only make it worse. Do not use Windows' system restore feature, that may make it totally irreversible.

In another thread (https://support.mozilla.org/questions/1098179) you said the steps I posted were not clear. Where did you run into problems?

Obtuse and evasive "solution". Here take a look at this statement; "New & Improved, Designed by Professionals, Labor Saving, User Friendly", sound familiar? What universe is that current fantasy true in? Did you people go to college to get that stupid? It begs many questions. For instance; is there a profit motive behind this arrogance? Or, is it simply condescension and disdain for any others that are not in your elite coding club? It makes no difference what your answer is when the facts are these; you deserve an "I" for Incomplete at best. Or, if you so desire allow the "I" to mean Idiot. MENSA asked me to join them decades ago and my answer was "What? Sip cocktails comparing I.Q.'s when the world is in such trouble? No thanks, I don't want to compete for last place. I'd rather work on solutions." I wish there were more of the same mind. One more thing, if you went on a date and were told "No" but continued with your agenda instead, the law calls that date rape. When I say "No" to an update or addons to my preferences and get them anyway that too is rape. I am burned out on time killers. This time could and should be used to implement the time and tools to make our world a better place for everyone, not just the elite coding club. Frankly I am tired of your coding club elite clubbing the masses into mush. You should be ashamed of yourselves. Get it together do good for more than your wallet and ego. @ my initials, art oshea

Hi artosheaIII, it's offensive to compare a software update to an involuntarily physical violation of a person's body. Even if some people may feel that their devices are an extension of themselves.

Anyway, do you want to describe the sequence of events in more detail to see if we can spot what went wrong? What version of Firefox were you running, what dialogs did you see or not see, etc.?

How disingenuous your response is. What part of Personal Computer do you not comprehend? The “P” in PC more than implies that my personal computer is more than my property and just as much a part of my “person” as a corporation is understood to be a “person” according to the US Supreme Court.

If a legal construct of thoughts such as a corporation (a paper “device”) is recognized as a person with similar rights to protection and privileges afforded an individual, then it is no stretch to view our PC’s as devices that contain our personal thoughts which have certain rights and responsibilities recognized under the law.

Since copyright and patent laws protect an individual’s thoughts from theft how is it that you arbitrarily dismiss the device or medium housing such as a misplaced and misguided “feeling” that our PC’s are extensions of ourselves?

You are of course aware of remuneration paid for loss of income? Are those actionable recompenses also discarded in your reasoning’s?

Regardless, I can truly relate to a woman put on the stand and raped again by the questions posed to her that in essence blame the victim. Now this may not be PC, and in this case I mean Politically Correct, but I find your position offensive when you want more graphic descriptions of the rape of my time.

What do you require then? A DVD or video? You pervert! When I was raped for hours of my time I was using Firefox 44.0.2 and at the bottom of the browser a banner suggested I could speed up Firefox by doing just what I previously wrote. A folder was placed on my desktop titled “Old Firefox Data” and to my unpleasant surprise (consternation) the misinformation highway bounced off of satellites in the Craposphere solidly screwed me again.

Satisfied? I had no intention of returning to academia for the proper phrasing and wording you smart people require. No, the Wild Wild West of the cut, copy, paste general populous is a mile wide and less than an inch deep. Learning yet another new language to appease such shallow and fruitless pursuits is all wet in my opinion.

While here in this rant, something I found helpful was disregarding the failed attempts at rectifying my error in judgement when the temptation to speed things up resulted in my hard labor to undo the Labor Saving unleashed on me with the so-called “solution”.

Euphemisms, geek speak, more misdirection’s than a hustler hawking three card Monte’ in the Mozilla solutions would have made mr. gate$ proud. The right way, the wrong way and the government way came to mind. Create a problem then, God help us all, create a solution that really causes more problems.

Job security.

What I did to get out of jail was to copy the primary or is it root folder in the “Old Firefox Data” into Google then pasted the URL into Bookmarks where I opened and found all my extensions and add ins. Then I Googled “Kanagawa Wave” and found my preferred theme of The Great Wave Off Kanagawa” and saved the URL to my Utilities folder.

Now it would be interesting to use a keystroke recorder and probably just as obtuse as the other promises and even more time wasted so I can properly answer your other questions of “…, what dialogs did you see or not see, etc.?”

Gimme a break and I don’t mean Miley Cyrus’s Dad’s Achy Breaky Heart, tell me what you didn’t see. Describe it please. Yes, yes, I see. Nurse! Up the medication S.T.A.T!

Lemme ax you dis, what and why did Google Desktop fade away. It was great for data mining. Now I hope that satisfies your curiosity on what I didn’t see.

Have a Gr8 day…or not. Don’t be offended.

Hi artosheaIII, I think you're just digging the hole deeper.

Anyway, your new explanation is much clearer than your previous reference to updates:

Usually if you click that button you get the attached brief explanation so you can decline to proceed if you don't want to lose settings and add-ons. If you think there should be a more detailed explanation, you can submit your feedback on the following site:

https://input.mozilla.org/feedback/firefox

If you never want to see that bar again, you can create a preference to suppress it. Here's how:

(1) Select and copy the following preference name: browser.disableResetPrompt

(2) In a new tab, type or paste about:config in the address bar and press Enter/Return. Click the button promising to be careful.

(3) Right-click an existing preference and choose New > Boolean

(4) Paste the preference name and click OK

(5) Choose true and click OK

You're done with about:config now.

And my suggested "roll back" procedure is referenced in the "Solution" to this thread and many others. Sorry you didn't find it, or didn't find it helpful.

Good afternoon jscher2000. Thank you for your help. As to “digging the hole deeper” I’ve heard it said, “Diggin' it is much better than burying it.”

“Usually if you click that button”, well maybe I live in the wrong zip code to reap the benefits of “Usually”. Luck of the draw. I’ll get over it…or not.

No I didn’t find the roll back procedure and diligently looked for such. It was a difficult night with over 7 hours lost to following instructions for an update to the Lenovo Solution Center. This is off topic but in the related frustration zone most of us encounter, the instructions popped up telling the end user to delete the old Solution Center and continue with the update. Then reboot.

Oh joy. After following the instructions and clicking on the Lenovo icon the new popup window tells the end user to reinstall the update because an important file is missing.

The baffled end user applies due diligence to find the update in downloads in their desktop, the browser and returns to the offending site to find it, then moans that Google Desktop for data mining is obsolete. For some reason it is only a matter of time before the end user becomes jaded, wary, suspicious of promises and enticements.

“Did you look in the ‘Temp’ files?”

But the first hit is free. That loaded statement may get you loaded at the start but not reading the fine print one will experience what “free” doesn’t mean. But “FREE” is mean. One word cruelty. A dirty little four letter word beginning with the letter “F”.

Moreover the “F” in “fine print”, doesn’t exist anymore than my describing what I didn’t see. Okay I didn’t see the non-existent fine print. Did they use invisible ink? Should I put a polarizing filter on my screen? Use disclosing tablets? Run an iron over the page?

“What color isn’t it that you are not seeing?”

Okay Okay maybe I get it, maybe not. Is it similar to our freedom here in the US? Now that I do get, we have the illusion of freedom. And that too you can’t see and it is very tuff to describe what you don’t see. But I’m told others see my face turning red with rage, they describe my mood as blue and my resigned pallor as white. How patriotic.

Daddy Dearest told me “If you can’t dazzle them with your brilliance then baffle them with BS.” My my, they must teach that in college. Every aspect of our society employs Daddy’s dirty little secret; politicians, advertisers, marketers, educators, Big Pharmacy, Big Oil, doctors, lawyers, et al ad nauseam.

The BS factor is so pervasive it is the most employed ploy in courting rituals.

Daddy Dearest was also fond of “Do as I say, not as I do.” That goes double for major groups of people that demand a standard from others that they believe they are exempt from and that they are above the law. For instance; “Protect & Serve”, sure themselves.

Ow well…I’ll get over it…or not. Another thing, they say “misery loves company” yeah but joy enjoys it much more.

“Walk it off soldier, walk it off, it’s just a flesh wound.” “But Sarge, all I have is flesh.”

Describe the color of that thought. What size is it? How much does it weigh? Do you see what I’m not seeing?

And I’m delusional? Why? Just because I’m being stalked by three women? Yeah they follow me everywhere, what should I do Doctor Ed? “Who are they? What are their names art?” “Well Dr. Ed, Shirley, Goodness and Mercy.” “Uh, hehe, let them catch you art.”

Have a Gr8 day and enjoy. Can you dig it?

Do not attempt to dig in the mile wide less than an inch deep puddle of tears. Those tears are a result of changing the rules of the game on the fly. The statement that there are no absolute truths is an absolute lie. Situational ethics is taught and the tears flow. Justice and judgment tempered with mercy is my prayer. Love never fails.

Thank you for your help and this has worked well for me since taking two years of Latin “Illigitimis non carborundum est.” Much better than taking two aspirin and calling Dr. Ed in the morning.

Much appreciated.
