I get "Failed to find the seetings for your email account." I use:

1. IMAP, mail.[domain].com, 993, SSL, normal password; and

2. SMTP, mail.[domain].com, SSL, normal password; and

3. full email address as incoming and outgoing username.

These are the Dreamhost instructions.

Since this is a private domain, Thunderbird will not be able to auto-discover your settings.

Fill in everything by hand. Don't leave anything set to "auto". When you do this, the "advanced configuration" button should become active and this will let you go straight to the account settings page without having to pass the automatic test.

Did they not give you a port number for SMTP?

Yea, I removed all auto and couldn't get it to work. On SMTP I have port 465.

I suggest you post the server names. Often we find the private domains are actually not configured for mail or are configured incorrectly. Or are with someone like wix that supply only one predefined email address.
