I want to stop the Alt key from opening the menu bar, but can't seem to find any way of doing this. Is there a way of taking to alt key off this shortcut menu?

You can set ui.key.menuAccessKeyFocuses = false on the about:config page.

You can open the about:config page via the location/address bar. You can click the button to "Accept the Risk and Continue".

You may have to close and restart Firefox.
