Changes made in Bookmarks Manager aren't applied

Whenever I make changes in Bookmarks Manager, they aren't applied to my bookmarks in Firefox. They are saved within the Bookmarks Manager, they just don't update to my actual bookmarks (i.e., the way my bookmarks are displayed within the Bookmarks Manager does NOT match the way my bookmarks actually show up in the browser). I have tried:

-refreshing Firefox -unchecking the box for "read-only" in the places.sqlite file (as recommended at https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/cant-add-change-or-save-bookmarks) -deleting both the "places.sqlite" file and the "xulstore-json" file (as recommended at https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/cant-add-change-or-save-bookmarks) -restarting my computer

This is a major issue for me and may mean I have to switch back to Chrome if I can't get it sorted. Any other suggestions on how I can fix this issue?

Explain in detail what it is you did.

If you have sync, and there is a problem anywhere, Shut Down Sync Immediately On All Devices to prevent the problem from spreading. Type https://accounts.firefox.com/settings<enter> in the address bar. Once the problem is fixed, perform the same repair on all computers/profiles before using sync again.

[v57+] Places Maintenance is built into Firefox.

Type about:support<enter> in the address bar.

You will find Places Database near the bottom. Press the Verify Integrity button.

If any errors are reported: https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/fix-bookmarks-and-history-will-not-be-functional

The places.sqlite file contains your History and Bookmarks. And it looks like it is corrupted.

Type about:support<enter> in the address bar.

Under the page logo on the left side, you will see Application Basics. Under this find Profile Folder. To its right press the button Show Folder. This will open your file browser to the current Firefox profile. Now Close Firefox.

Locate the above file. Then rename or delete it. Restart Firefox. The browser should then create a new place.sqlite and recover your bookmarks from the backup files.

Note: Your history is not backed up and will be lost.

Thank you for your reply. I had already listed in my original post the troubleshooting methods I had tried. What other information were you asking for when you said, "Explain in detail what it is you did."? I'll be happy to tell you once I know what you're looking for.

As mentioned in my original post, I had already tried deleting the places.sqlite file, and that had no effect on my issue.

I am not using Sync. I only use Firefox on one device.

I clicked the "Verify Integrity" button for the Places Database, and here is what I got:

Looks good. The button checks the bookmarks file for errors and tries to repair any found.

As to the changes you made, where/how did you make the changes? And where are the changes not showing up?
