Thunderbird SMTP server timeout

I cannot send out a message. I've been using this for years, and no problem until a few months ago. Received error message that a message could not be sent because of timeout with the SMTP server. Here's what I'm using: Thunderbird 102.6.1 (64-bit) running on Win 10. The SMTP server is Earthlink (smptauth.earthlink.net) on port 465 (default) Conn. security: SSL/TLS Auth. method: normal password My ISP is AT&T U-Verse

In looking at the problems similar to this, a suggestion to click on Tools > Options. I can see no 'Options' nor 'Preferences' nor 'Advanced' selections under Tools.

I appreciate very much any assistance you can provide.

Bummer that after four months I don't have a single suggestion about how to be able to 'send' from my account. Perhaps this is so complex, I should give up and get another gmail account.

There isn't anything related to SMTP in the error log.

What is your anti-virus software?

I turned off my anti-virus software, AVG-Free, and turned off my firewall, and tried to send a simple message from Thunderbird. I got the same error - 'Sending of the message failed. The message could not be sent because the connection to Outgoing server (SMTP) smtpauth.earthlink.net timed out. Try again."

Anything else I could try.
