Trying to load ebay (uk and .com) I get a "connection timed out" message and "server is taking too long to respond" message I can load other sites including facebook gmail and my bank. The problem seems to be on my laptop as I can acces ebay without problems on another computer.

I have cleared history, cookies and cache and have also tried disabling addons. Nothing seems to work. Any help gratefully received (not too technical, please)

try this: go to TOOLS > OPTIONS > ADVANCED > NETWORK tab > CONNECTION > check Auto-detect proxy settings for this network [x], click OK to save it, exit firefox and restart it.

Thanks ideato. Unfortunately that did not solve the problem, which persists after following your guidance. Still seeking a solution and hoping for some assistance. Thanks again for your contribution
