In Ubuntu 14.01 a search engine called "Inbox" has replaced google. How do I remove this "Inbox" search engine from ubuntu??

I deleted it in the Add Ons Manager and rebooted, but it is still the search engine.

Do you mean it is listed as one of your many available search plugins in the search bar? You can use the "Manage Search Engines" dialog to remove added search plugins. Please see this article for more details: Search bar - add, change and manage search engines on Firefox.
