Have Charter email. When I go to download an attachment the name is changed from something.extension to "viewattachment". I have a Microsoft Paint image of my problem to send you but do see where I can attach a file.

Jaomily,

How strange! After downloading, have you tried renaming the file to it's original name (ie something.extension)? Does that work?

This might be an issue with Charter email itself. I've heard they've recently made some changes, so this could be a bug. When you have problems with a specific website like this, it might be worth reporting them directly to Charter or to webcompat.com.

Best,

jayelbe,

Thank you very much for the response. Your suggested work around has always worked, but is a multi-step process and a frustrating one at that. The reason I don't feel the problem lies with Charter is that when I open Charter email via the Internet Explorer web browser I am presented the name of the file with the appropriate extension in the Opening dialogue box. I prefer using Firefox, however, may have to regress and begin using Internet Explorer as the default browser.
