I transfer firefox bookmarks from my Windows XP desktop to my Windows 7 laptop on a monthly basis with no problem. However, my Windows XP bookmarks will not open in my Toshiba Encore 2 tablet running Windows 8.1. Firefox on the tablet is a full program download, not an app. Otherwise, firefox run great on the tablet in Windows 8.1. A "script" error message appears that includes the word "chrome," but I don't believe the Toshiba Encore 2 is a chrome system. I tried html export and import and also tried the backup and restore with the json file. Neither method worked.

The following is the correct answer: When the "script" error appears, check the box "Don't ask me again" and then select "Continue." This is required because the "script" error will appear over and over again. Set the tablet aside and wait because importing a large bookmark.html file is very slow, but the bookmarks eventually appear. Also, the tablet has an on-screen touch keyboard that does not have ALT, CTRL, Function key, and many others. Therefore, the bookmarks cannot be sorted unless you get a bluetooth mouse to use the right mouse key function to select "sort," and get a bluetooth full function keyboard.

Firefox uses the "chrome://" protocol to access its own internal files and also access files from extensions (no connection with Google Chrome).

You can try to click the continue button to see if the process finishes.

You can check for problems with the places.sqlite database file in the Firefox profile folder.

You should reset the involved prefs after you have finished the import to prevent malfunctioning scripts from locking Firefox and having to kill the Firefox program to recover.

  • dom.max_chrome_script_run_time

You can open the about:config page via the location/address bar. You can accept the warning and click "I'll be careful" to continue.

Type about:config in the location (address) bar and press the Enter key to open the about:config page like you open a website by typing the URL in the location bar.

  • if you see a warning message then you can confirm that you want to access the about:config page.

Preferences that are user set (bold) can be reset to the default value via the right-click context menu.
