Cannot import favorites etc from Safari. The Firefox File > Import... menu item is missing.
I was not offered the ability to import from Safari during first run after install.
This is the second time I have installed Firefox on this machine. I removed the .app file and purged the Library after the first install, which was months ago. I suspect this is the cause of the problem, but I don't know how to fix it.
Chosen solution
Places Maintenance {web link} Allows to run Maintenance tasks on the database that drives Places, the bookmarks and history module behind Firefox.
Open the Add-ons Manager. Locate the add-on and press the Options button. Select All of the tests. Then press Execute on the bottom.

The database turned out to be okay. I found the way to import from another browser by going to Bookmarks > Show All Bookmarks and clicking on the star icon then selecting import data from another browser.
That was very good work. Well Done. Please flag your last post as Solved Problem so others will know.
