Sending email via verizon stopped this noon.
My last outgoing Thunderbird email on Verizon went at 11:34am today. This afternoon, all outgoing emails time out. Didn't make any computer changes. I can log onto verizon.net and send emails. In an hour-long session, the Verizon tech verified that my settings are correct and tried everything that is supposed to help. Incoming emails are fine. Same problem on my wife's computer.
Windows 10, unfortunately.

Yesterday, error message was something vaguely like "smtp connection timed out."
Almost always caused by anti virus issues. Sometimes cleared by a simple reboot. Hence my suggestion to cold start the computer.

Forgot to say that incoming mail is okay.
so what error message do you get.... and make sure you have turned the power off to the computer
After not having any outgoing email yesterday, and having done nothing to try to fix it since late afternoon, this morning all is fine. Might be something that Verizon fixed overnight that the techs didn't know about. Since I had changed nothing, and there hadn't even been any automatic updates, I figured it must be Verizon's problem.
Yesterday, error message was something vaguely like "smtp connection timed out."
With the tech advising, we did all possible combinations of disconnections of computer and router (supposedly to get a new IP address) and restarts, but nothing helped.
Thanks for volunteering help. I

What we tried include reboot, but that didn't help. I think it was always a Verizon problem. Thanks for being willing to help.
