Lost contacts when I changed computer
I bought a new laptop. I had saved my user folder (Users>me>Appdata>Roaming>Profiles>xxxx folder) to an external drive and copied that into the same folder on my new laptop, replacing the automatically set up folder. I hoped that this would restore all my contacts and email history (1.9Gb). Thunderbird seems to have changed the folder name (automatically generated long id I think) and I only have recent history and contacts. Can I restore my contacts, including groups, to my current Thuderbird? And how can I view my older email history? Many thanks for any help, Doug

There is a file one level above your profile folder called profiles.ini. That file tells Thunderbird where to find your profile folder. You can edit it with Notepad. Open it, and make sure it is pointing to the correct folder.
That's also why it's better to copy the entire \Thunderbird\ folder when transferring your profile - no need to update the profiles.ini file. :)

Chris, I'm very grateful. A bit obvious really, but sorted now. Doug
