The problem is that my bookmarks menu does not mention folders, which the help instructions do. I had folders until a Firefox update several months ago eliminated them and put all my bookmarks in a single list.

Hi R.H. Fox, are you using the "Library" toolbar button that looks like a small set of books on a shelf?

There is an optional button for Firefox 57+ (looks like a star in a tray: ) that displays the more traditional menu. To add that button, either:

(A) Use the Customize panel (Customize Firefox controls, buttons and toolbars) to drag the icon to the desired spot on the toolbar

(B) Use the method from Bookmarks in Firefox - section entitled: How do I add the Bookmarks Menu button to the toolbar?

  • Click the "Library" button:
  • Click "Bookmarks"
  • Click "Bookmarking Tools"
  • Click "Add Bookmarks Menu to Toolbar"

It might be the help page you were on needs to be updated. Please post the link you were using so we can check it.

Basic instruction: Open the Bookmarks Manager; Press the Alt or F10 key to bring up the toolbar, and select Bookmarks. Hot key is <Control> (Mac=<Command>) <Shift> B.

Use the directory tree to find where you want to place the new folder. Open that branch of the tree. Inside that, right-click and select New Folder.

I am using the same link to bookmarks help as you are. The problem is that my bookmarks menu does not mention folders, which the help instructions do. I had folders until a Firefox update several months ago eliminated them and put all my bookmarks in a single list. Thanks for your help. R.H. Fox
