Pocket articles do not appear on my Firefox Homepage in "highlights" section (despite settings).

I have my options set to show my saved Pocket articles on the homepage. But they don't show up.

I also have options set so that my history is deleted every time I close Firefox, BUT under settings I made it so that it will not erase/delete "active logins" and "site preferences". And for safe measure, I also added www.getpocket.com to my list of "Allowed" cookies.

Yet if I close Firefox and open it again, I still get a blank Homepage. And when I go to Pocket's website, I'm logged out and must sign in again, despite my settings. And even if I sign in again and look at my Homepage, my saved Pocket articles STILL don't show up. So what is preventing this?

Thinking about ditching Pocket altogether if I can't resolve this...

I just received this email from Pocket :

"Thank you for writing to Pocket Support! I'm happy to help.

After reading this support ticket, it sounds like the user you're working with wants to see their Pocket saves in the New Tab. At this time, we sadly don't offer a way to show the user's List in the New Tab page, only Recommendations.

If you like, you can ask that the user contact Pocket Support if they have any additional questions, but I hope this is helpful.

Please let me know if I can help with anything else and I'll be happy to do so! "

Hello KD637,

Would you check this please :

Type in the address bar about:config and press Enter (promise to be careful, if asked)

Type in the search bar : pocket and look for the preferences :

extensions.pocket.enabled and browser.newtabpage.activity-stream.section.highlights.includePocket

Make sure their values are set to true

If you had to change the values, then close and restart Firefox.

Hi McCoy,

Thanks for responding. I checked it and they are both already set to "true".

Bummer ! I was hoping that would be it ....

When you say 'Home page', you mean 'New Tab page', right  ?

(you can of course set the New Tab page to be your Home page)

Just to make sure that you haven't overlooked anything; would you please go over these articles :

https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/customize-new-tab-page

and :

https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/disable-or-re-enable-pocket-for-firefox

Yep, my Home page is the same as the new tab page. It's the page I see when I open up Firefox.

I went over those articles and I'm sure my highlights settings are correct. I also toggled false, closed out, then toggled true again after re-opening. Still no gravy.

Note that active logins are about basic authentication that for instance is used to login to login to website. The latter is about cookies.

Details like a website remembering you (log you in automatically) is stored in a cookie, so you may want to keep these specific cookies. If you use "Clear history when Firefox closes" to clear the cookies then this removes all cookies including cookies with an allow exception.

Clearing "Site Preferences" clears exceptions for cookies, images, pop-up windows, and software installation and exception for password and other website specific data

If you clear the browsing history then Firefox isn't able to fill tiles with the most visited web pages. I don't think that this would affect Pocket.

Start Firefox in Safe Mode to check if one of the extensions ("3-bar" menu button or Tools -> Add-ons -> Extensions) or if hardware acceleration is is causing the problem.

  • switch to the DEFAULT theme: "3-bar" menu button or Tools -> Add-ons -> Themes
  • do NOT click the "Refresh Firefox" button on the Safe Mode start window

Hi co-rel and thanks for responding. I opened Firefox in safe mode and I still get the same problem.

Back in normal mode, I changed my setting to remember history (rather than deleting it after closing). The problem still persists.

The weird thing is when I set my Highlights area to show "Recommended by Pocket", those actually show up. It's only my saved Pocket articles that do not show up. Not sure if it matters but they are not archived either.
