Why were saved passwords were deleted when I reset Firefox?

Firefox was slow loading and a pop-up from Mozilla suggested that I reset Firefox - and that all my saved information would be preserved. So I reset it, and a folder called "Old Firefox Data" was saved to my desktop. But when I reloaded Firefox, ALL my data was GONE. How can I get the data from the folder on my desktop into my current version of Firefox?
