have written down my recovery key 20 digits on one line and 12 on another are all 32 digits the recovery key, i am trying to sync both email addresses.

The recovery key is 32 characters long, so you need to enter the full key you saved when you generated the recovery key.
Do not confuse the 32 character recovery key to use instead of a password reset and the 6 digit recovery code for two factor authentication (2FA).
