Will Firefox install as my default browser on a mac osx 10.4.11 using safari, version 4.1?

I dont want to use firefox as my default browser, I want to use both browsers.

Firefox will ask if you want to make it the default browser, and you can select no. See: Make Firefox your default browser Setting Firefox as the default browser does not work - What to do
