How do I permanently block unwanted ads on-line?
An ad for Consumer News that's somehow associated with Google about an amazing offer has kept popping up and preventing altogether my getting to anything else on my laptop. I'm hoping someone will be able to tell me how I can block that thoroughly obnoxious ad and any other unwanted ads.

The most likely cause of excess popups on sites that should not have them, such as Google search pages, is spyware.
