I have recently changed my browser to Firefox from Explorer. But now I try to download an attachment to an email received & am presented with a screen to either open or save download. If I choose open it asks me what with!! Explorer (default) or Other. I am forced to choose Other but it just goes mad with flashing screen & saves the file in an obscure APPDATA file on my C drive. I have set Firefox as my default browser. I am unable to open downloaded file at all. If I cant find an answer I shall go back to Internet Explorer!!

Hi David,

What are the "attachments" eg text files, videos, standalone executable programs etc.

You will at least for now have to go with the save option, but why not choose a location where you can find the item. If it is say a photograph it may be within a compressed / zipped folder, there is also a possibility the file type may need renaming. You then need a suitable application to open it with. (In the case of a photograph it may open by default in your Vista OS, or firefox may be able to easily open it)

Again taking photographs as an example, and as a popular webmail example Hotmail or Live as it may now be known, last time I looked they added attachments in such a way that firefox could open them as a slideshow, within the email itself, if you have the silverlight plug-in installed.
