How do I retrieve all my bookmarks that were lost while upgrading to Firefox 4?

I lost all my bookmarks when I installed the new version of Firefox, so I reverted back to 3.6 and performed the troubleshooting tasks of trying to import and restore previous backups to no avail. I already referred to the 'lost bookmarks' section and nothing helped. Is my old bookmarks file/folder still somewhere on my computer? I'm running Mac OS X 10.6 if that helps.

I tried this and it didn't work. Any other suggestions?

Try this one instead: Recover lost or missing Bookmarks

Yeah, that's what I tried the first time around but it didn't work. I tried restoring two previous bookmark backups and a bookmarks.html file but none of them did anything. I don't want to delete them in case they do have data on them, I just can't figure out a way to access it.

This can be a problem with the file places.sqlite that stores the bookmarks and the history.
