Applet is signed, but signature not verified. Firefox should ask permission.

If applet is in an html file, permission is requested and all works OK. If applet is in an xhtml file, it is not recognised. Changing the file extension from xhtml to html restores correct working (but I do need to run these files as xhtml, so that does not solve the problem!)

Your Java is very out of date, so please update to Java 7 update 5, and test again.

Then, try Resetting Firefox. Refresh Firefox - reset add-ons and settings

Can you post a link to a public page that doesn't require authentication (log in) to access it?

Tylerdowner: Thanks for your reply. Have installed the latest Java, problem still there. However, the problem is with FireFox 13. I have installed Firefox 12 and that is OK. Can this be reported as a bug? See also my reply to cor-el

Cor-el Sorry, posting a link will not help, because the pages in question are designed to work when not connected to the internet. This requires some explanation: My system in its normal mode allows candidates to submit answers to tests in html and submit to a server which reponds. The system has a second mode for people temporarily without an internet connection. The html or xhtml page carries a hidden applet called by Javascript to which the response is submitted and which responds. This applet requires permission to run.It is only this mode (which I have used for years) which now does not work So to summarise: Applets not requiring permission run Ok Applets requiring permission run OK if they are in an html page but not in xhtml FireFox 12 does not show the problem, Firefox 13 does. Hence my suspicion that this is a problem in FF 13.
